Bio
Abu Bakr was called to the Bar in 2019 and has held chambers as a member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates from the start of 2020.
Abu Bakr has also acted as an Acting Judge in the Labour Court in February 2024 and February 2025.
Prior to the Bar, Abu Bakr practised in the tax consultancy division of a multinational financial services firm, as well as an attorney at a boutique law firm in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Abu Bakr maintains a strong employment practice, together with a general commercial practice, with a preference for tax-related disputes, judicial reviews, general commercial disputes & insolvency-related disputes. Abu Bakr has appeared in various divisions of the High Court, and the Labour Court, both led and unled. Abu Bakr has also appeared, as junior counsel, in the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court.
Abu Bakr is fluent in English and Afrikaans, and conversant in Zulu and Arabic.
