At the request of the Deputy Judge President of the North West Division of the High Court, Mahikeng, the Johannesburg Society of Advocates requested its members to make themselves available to assist in clearing the backlog of criminal appeals in that court.

In this regard three members from the Rivonia Group – Doron Block, Jan Sello Langa and Mmule Mpakanyane – volunteered to assist the JSA on a pro deo basis.

Assistance in filing heads of argument was offered by Legal Aid South Africa, and the criminal appeals were heard during March 2025.
